Kyokushin Karate
Kyokushin Karate was founded by Masutatsu (Mas) Oyama, known as Sosai. Sosai held a 10th dan Black Belt. Sadly, Oyama passed away in 1994 aged 70 years.
Kyokushin, meaning "Ultimate truth" is a Japanese influenced style of Martial Arts and is also known as the "strongest Karate". This came about from Oyama's disciplined training, testing his power by fighting bulls with his bare hands and defeating opponents with one punch!
There are more aspects to Kyokushin karate than kumite (fighting). Kata, being a set of pre determined movements, self defence techniques, speed and co-ordination training.
Dojo Oath
We will train our hearts and bodies
For a firm unshaken spirit.
We will pursue the true meaning of the martial way
So that in time our senses may be alert.
With true vigour,
We will seek to cultivate a spirit of self-denial.
We will observe the rules of courtesy
Respect our superiors, and refrain from violence.
We will follow our religious beliefs
And never forget the true virtue of humility.
We will look upwards to wisdom and strength
Not seeking other desires.
All our lives, through the discipline of karate
We will seek to fulfil the true meaning of the
Kyokushin way.
